You’ve been driving the same car for 5 years now and it has served you and your family well for all 5 of those years. After all that time, however, you’re ready for a little upgrade. Selling the car yourself takes so much effort and you can’t always guarantee that something won’t go HORRIBLY wrong during the process of the sale. After a bit of research, you’ve decided that there’s nothing easier than trading in your car at Galles Chevrolet, your local dealership. A few things you’ll need to get together before you come see us: be sure the car is cleaned out thoroughly and you know what your car is worth. You should also make sure you have all the necessary documents (especially the car’s title, if you have it) and valuable accessories, such as extra key fobs, keys and whatever else may be necessary.

When you arrive, be sure to specify that you are looking to trade in your car. The salesperson who greets you will likely take down some of your information, then either the salesperson or a used-car manager will perform a visual inspection of your car, take down the vehicle identification number and run the number through a vehicle history database to check its records. While the records are being checked we’ll have our service department check out our vehicle to check the condition of the tires, brakes, fluids, and other mechanical parts. Now there are a few factors that will go into the offer you get on your vehicle but mostly it will rely on the price being sought for similar vehicles at auction. Other possible factors include whether or not we have similar cars on the lot already, the condition of your vehicle and whether we would need to make any repairs to make the car ready for sale.

If you have questions about your offer, ask your salesperson; you can even ask to see the auction prices or other used-car estimates they might be using to build their offer.

Once you have decided to accept the offer for the trade-in and the new car all that’s left to do is the paperwork. We strive to keep this process as stress-free as possible. If you have the title for your vehicle you could leave that day with a new car. If you owe money on the car, we’ll have to wait to get the title from your lender. If you owe more money than you were offered you’ll have to pay the dealership the difference or roll that amount into the loan for your new car.
