2017 is in full swing, and if you’re still trying to think of a New Year’s Resolution, Galles Chevy is here to help! Make one that you can actually keep this year that will keep you and your family safe by considering a car-safe resolution. We have some ideas below.

  • No More Distracted Driving: Distracted driving is a huge issue. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, nearly 431,000 injuries and 3,179 fatalities were caused by distracted driving in 2014. Make a vow to be more focused on driving this year by changing your habits. Instead of doing your makeup in the car, wake up five minutes earlier. If texting and driving is a problem, try keeping your phone in the back seat.
  • Consider Safety Rating: Purchasing a vehicle based on performance or style may be your first inclination, but before you buy, consider its safety rating. Chevrolet offers options with Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ ratings, including the 2017 Chevy Malibu and 2017 Chevrolet Volt.
  • Buckle Up: This one goes without saying. According to the Center for Disease Control, simply using your seatbelt can reduce serious crash-related injury or death by over 50 percent. Tell your family you’ll be strictly enforcing the seat belt rule, backseat or front, child or adult (or dog), everyone will buckle up!
  • Be Prepared: We hope you are never in an accident, but if you are, we hope you have prepared with auto escape tools like a seatbelt cutter or glass-shattering hammer, that will help you escape the vehicle if you are otherwise not able to. Make this year the year you make this life-saving purchase.
  • Change a Tire: Wouldn’t it be nice not to have to call someone if you’re the victim of a flat tire? While the Service Department at Galles Chevy is always here to help, it’s important to learn this handy skill if you find yourself in a pinch.
  • Fill Up Your Tank: No more driving around on empty! It is bad for your engine and puts you at risk of running out of gas (obviously).
  • Help End Drinking and Driving: Drunk driving kills 36 people and injures 700 people on any given day. Do your part by never driving while impaired, but also watching others and offering to drive if they’ve had one too many.
